Diagnostics of thyroid diseases
Thyroid diseases are the most widespread among all endocrine diseases. The most common one is node pathology. Most often nodular malformations don’t declare themselves and are detected only after ultrasound investigation. Even the smallest palpable abnormalities can be malignant. To detect the cell structure of palpable abnormality specialists carry out thin needle biopsy of thyroid gland.
The second common disease of thyroid gland is hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is a common disorder of the endocrine system in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. This disorder develops in case of autoimmune thyroiditis, after operative interventions on thyroid, after treatment of radioactive iodine and etc. Symptoms of hypothyroidism: asthenia, fatigue, constant sleepiness, chill, weakness of memory, there may be a slight weight gain, impossibility to lose weight, menstrual disorders, elevated prolactin levels in blood. Diagnostics of hypothyroidism is carried out according to the results of hormonal investigations (thyroid-stimulating hormone — TSH, free fraction of thyroxine — Т4sv), ultrasound examination of thyroid gland.
There is another widespread thyroid disease — thyrotoxicosis or hyperthyroidism (elevated levels of thyroid hormones). Reasons for these conditions may be the following: Graves- Bazedov disease, hasitotoxicosis at autoimmune thyroiditis, toxic adenoma. This condition is manifested by the evident weight loss, enhanced heartbeats, rapid pulse, hyperexcitability, nervousness, hand shaking, sleep disturbances. Ophthalmoptosis can also occur (abnormal protrusion of the eye). The main symptom of thyrotoxicosis is elevated levels of thyroid hormones in blood. In order to detect the reason of this condition and to choose the treatment it is necessary to determine the levels of TSH and Т4sv, the level of antibodies to receptors of TSH, to carry out ultrasound examination of thyroid, in some cases — to carry out scintigraphy of thyroid.
State Institution “Republican Center for Medical Rehabilitation and Balneotherapy” has developed the one-day program «Diagnostics of thyroid diseases», which includes all necessary trials (hormonal, ultrasound, thin needle biopsy of thyroid) and is carried out within 1 day.
The cost of the full program with thin needle biopsy of thyroid is about 100 $, without biopsy — 50$.
The program includes:
- Consultation with an endocrinologist
- Ultrasound thyroid gland with lymph and superficial nodes and Doppler sonography on digital color device (more than 512 channels)
- Hormonal tests with application of immunoenzymometric systems of the II generation, determination in blood serum:
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone
- Free fraction of thyroxin at additional indications – free fraction of triiodothyronine, antibodies to thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxydase, thyroglobulin thin-needle aspiration biopsy under the control of ultrasound examination***
*** Researches are carried out in case of indications on doctor’s order
